Can You Have Silent Pancreatitis?

Background: Silent chronic pancreatitis (CP), also known as painless chronic pancreatitis, is an uncommon variant of this medical condition. Chronic pancreatitis typically involves persistent pain, but silent CP occurs without the characteristic pain symptoms.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and distinctive features of silent chronic pancreatitis, a form of the disease that has often been overlooked in medical research and practice.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive examination of patients diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis who did not experience pain as a symptom. Patients with autoimmune pancreatitis were excluded from this study to focus specifically on silent CP. This research was conducted as of September 10, 2020, to shed light on this lesser-known aspect of pancreatitis.
